A city rich in cultural attractions, Richmond has also been rife with crime. But seven years ago, the city launched the Office of Neighborhood Safety, which uses a combination of ‘big data’ to attack its challenges with gangs and violence. Employing a team of neighborhood change agents and an unprecedented approach, Richmond has drastically cut its violent crime rate, falling to a 33-year low in 2013. Now, in partnership with its biggest employer, Chevron, the city is committed to post-secondary academic opportunities as well. In terms of business, the Port of Richmond serves as a reason for Richmond’s industrial importance. Centers for the arts and natural attractions such as the Richmond Art Center and Wildcat Canyon Regional Park also attract tourists to the area. Now Richmond plans to blossom in the lovely climate of San Francisco Bay Area.
