The Villages, Florida

cop-side-villagesThe Villages has experienced amazing growth over the last 15 years. With fewer than 10,000 residents in 2000, the 2010 census reported that the city grew to 50,000, making it the fastest growing micropolitan area in the United States. Almost all of the residents — 98 percent — are at least 45 years old and the median age is 66 years old. That means that the dominant theme of the area, which falls within the Orlando coverage area, is golf. And the golf carts are hardly contained to the numerous courses as they are the standard mode of transportation in The Villages. The growth is expected to continue as in the four years since the census, the population has increased another 70 percent with a projected buildout of 100,000.
