Bayside — an unincorporated city situated 200 miles north of San Francisco — sits in Humboldt County, which features dense forests with towering Redwoods, mountains and more than 100 miles of coastline. The lumber industry remains an important sector in the local economy, perhaps the most important, but employment has diversified greatly in the last 25 years. Known for its “untamed paradise,” California’s Redwood Coast now attracts adventure tourism as well as geotourism. The two largest universities in the area — College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University — also provide jobs and innovation in the towering environment.
