Stamford, Connecticut

cop-side-stamfordEven though few cities are as educated as Stamford, the city isn’t about to rest on its laurels. As it has one of the nation’s largest concentrations of corporations, nearly half of the residents hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher). Nine of 10 in the city are high school graduates. Four companies in Stamford are of the Fortune 500 variety and another five are among the Fortune 1,000. Both the University of Connecticut and the University of Bridgeport have campuses in the city. On the west side of the city is Jackie Robinson Park, which is named for the barrier-breaking baseball player, who spent his later years in Fairfield. His wife, Rachel, founded the Jackie Robinson Foundation after his premature passing. Last year that organization awarded $4 million in scholarship assistance and program support.
